Gordon Coons Man Transferring into Healer.jpg

Gordon Coons has been exploring community stories and themes from his Ojibwa culture his whole life. Works like his “Man Transferring into Healer” are inspired by well-known Ojibwa stories. In this piece, Makwa the bear, who is a healer, is teaching man how to be a healer for the community.

A professional artist for over thirty years, Coons enjoys working with materials that best let him express his culture in graphical creations. He uses techniques including oil/water relief prints, cedar smoke to create images, embossed images and acrylic paintings in the Ojibwa Woodland Art Style.

Coons hopes viewers will enjoy the expression of his Ojibwa culture through his creations.
