Emily Walley’s work is an exploration of place and memory. It considers how we collect, curate, conceptualize, and communicate a given moment over time. These pieces fall on a continuum between representation and abstraction, where nature collides with print photographs, digital remnants, paper, and tape, materializing on canvas as dreamlike and detached amid fields of color.

Created between 2024 and 2026, the paintings and interactive sculpture represented in this exhibition were her search for solace in a time of extremes; a way to embrace play, humor, and optimism to process the incomprehensible.

Throughout the show, you’ll discover recurring motifs: pinecones; drought-tolerant perennials; rocks; shells; driftwood; objects from nature that have weathered storms through decades, over centuries. Walley invites you to consider the sculptural piece Retreat, as your buffer, a means to find some comfort amid the instability.
