One Stroke Makes a Landscape Singular brushwork by Bob Schmitt

June 3 - June 25, 2023

One Stroke Makes a Landscape is Minneapolis brush painter‘s first gallery exhibit of his stunning creation of entire col- orful landscapes created in a masterful loading of a traditional Chinese brush with ink, colors and metallic gold. These works, yes actually created in one stroke of the brush, depict a number of seasons and locations from the North Shore to Minnehaha Creek, from Kyoto and Holland.

Schmitt began painting with Chinese bruah and ink as a 12 year old watching local educational TV. He had studied with Lok Tok and Yitong Lok in Toronto and locally with Hong Zhang with weekly lessons for 22 years. He currently has a studio and gallery called Laughing Waters Studio in south Minneapolis, just 2 blocks from Minnehaha Falls.

This exhibit opens Saturday night, June 3, 2023 from 6pm - 9pm.

The Vine Art Center is open on Saturdays from 11am - 5pm.

As part of the exhibition, Schmitt will be available in the gallery to talk about his process from 1-4pm on Saturdays June 10, 17 and 24, 2023. He will provide public demonstrations of his technique from 2-3pm on on these 3 Saturdays.
